About ME
I have a highly qualified social science license to teach both secondary and middle school levels in Social Studies from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.
Over the past three years, I substituted for various junior highs and high school within central Illinois, including two long-term substitution positions. In my long-term English substitute position at Shiloh High School and long term Social Science substitution at Midland High School, I have developed my skills in co-worker collaboration, UDL standards for an inclusive classroom, lesson plan construction, and classroom discipline and management. My experience with handling technology such as Smartboard, Promethean Board, ELMO, and Mac software will enhance student success within the school and in the technology oriented world today. |
About UsThe Mission of Astoria Community Unit School District #1 is to provide the best possible learning environment for its students
and to prepare these students to be life-long learners and productive members of society. Within my classroom, I uphold this belief and goal. I always keep in mind when teaching my students, “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next,” stated by Abraham Lincoln. As such, the success resulted in my classroom will help the students succeed in the world because they will have learned the application of history and educational skill-sets blinded with modern technology in order to advance in the modern world.

Who We Are |
Astoria is a small community (population: 1200) and the largest in the District, located 65 miles southwest of Peoria, 75 miles northwest of Springfield, and 70 miles northeast of Quincy. It sits on U.S. Route 24 in the middle of abandoned coal mines and farming ground.
The Astoria School District (pre-k through 12th grade) is housed in one building. Astoria built the present high school in the early fifties and built an addition to house the Junior High and Elementary in the early 1970's. Since that time such amenities as floor tile, paint, carpet, and electrical outlets have been added. At present, the district enrollment is about 400 students. Astoria's staff is made up of three administrators, thirty-four experienced teachers (average experience of 17.years), and twenty-six support personnel. Even though the number of regular classroom teachers has declined, the number of special area teachers has increased. Astoria as a community and school faces the challenges of providing a quality education in a socioeconomically challenged environment with limited resources. We offer experienced staff, involved community leaders, responsive administration, and students who are ready to develop the skills needed for the society of the future. |
Our History |
As most of the community knows, Astoria is a small created in 1837 by Zachariah Gilbert and Benjamin Clark.
The town's name is derived, it is said, from that of the Pacific Station of John Jacob Astor, the famous fur trader, who also owned a quarter section of land in this county. The town boomed with coal mining from 1959 until 1980s. Now, Astoria lingers within the beautiful hilly farmland, quiet, and serine for the peaceful villagers. As the Major Brian Bucher states, [Astoria townspeople] are always looking for ways to improve our Town and make it flourish. Bucher, Brian.
